چکیده

The establishment and maintenance of pregnancy requires significant modifications of the maternal environment. During pregnancy, changes arise in virtually every major organ system within the mother, permitting growth and development of the embryo/fetus within the protected confines of the maternal reproductive tract. These gestational-dependent adaptations are believed to be controlled, at least in part, through the elaboration of chemical signals by the uterus and placenta referred to as hormones/cytokines. Some uteroplacental signals have been coupled to the regulation of specific maternal responses, while a specific function is not known for other putative signaling molecules that have been identified. The subject of this review is the uteroplacental prolactin (PRL) family. PRL is a multifunctional hormone/cytokine that has been used as an evolutionary template for the generation of regulatory molecules involved in the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy. Several reviews on the PRL family have appeared over the past several years and are recommended [1-7].

Prolactin family miniarray: a tool for evaluating uteroplacental-trophoblast endocrine cell phenotypes.

The prolactin family represents a group of hormones and cytokines that participate in the control of maternal and fetal adaptations to pregnancy. The aim of this study was to develop a simple assay for monitoring patterns of prolactin family gene expression in rats and mice. Prolactin family cDNAs were spotted on to nylon membranes. Total RNA was extracted from tissues or cells. cDNAs were gene...

Effect of pheromones on the plasma level of prolactin during pregnancy and lactating periods in female rat

Introduction: Pheromones play a great role in the reproductive and social behavior of animals. The main sources of pheromones are urine and paracrine secretions. Through the neuroendocrine system, prolactin is a safe parameter to measure and compare the effects of pheromones on the sexual, maternal and also lactating behavior. Methods: Female rats were divided into 19 groups (n=8). To measur...

Second trimester Doppler ultrasound screening of the uterine arteries differentiates between subsequent normal and poor outcomes of hypertensive pregnancy: two different pathophysiological entities?

The 'classical' concept that pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) and pre-eclampsia (PE) primarily originate from defective placentation in early pregnancy has been challenged recently. There is growing evidence that other factors, including maternal predisposing conditions, also play a significant role in the pathophysiology of PIH and PE. The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesi...

Eosinophils are cellular targets of the novel uteroplacental heparin-binding cytokine decidual/trophoblast prolactin-related protein.

The uterus and placenta of the mouse and rat produce a member of the prolactin (PRL) family referred to as decidual/trophoblast PRL-related protein (d/tPRP). This cytokine/hormone has been hypothesized to regulate decidual cell activities needed for the establishment and maintenance of gestation. An alkaline phosphatase (AP)-tagging strategy was used to identify d/tPRP target cells. AP-d/tPRP b...

اثر متفورمین بر بهبود جریان خون رحمی- جفتی و کاهش عوارض حاملگی در خانم‌های حامله مبتلا به سندرم تخمدان پلی‌کیستی

Background: Some complications of pregnancy such as abortion, gestational diabetes mellitus, preeclampsia, and preterm delivery are more common among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Recently it has been reported that metformin treatment during pregnancy reduces pregnancy complications, so this study was conducted to demonstrate the possible effects of metformin on the uteroplacenta...
